Vol. IX, No. 6 November/December 2006
ANNUAL MEETING TIME—COME ALL!!
By now you have received your proxy for the Annual Meeting on Saturday, November 18, at 10:00 a.m. at the Westin Resort (please note the change of venue). This meeting is the perfect opportunity for property owners to hear from the POA Board about accomplishments for 2006 and proposed projects for 2007. The 2007 budget will also be presented and put to a vote. The
candidates for the three open Board positions will be introduced and deliver brief statements (you will receive a voting ballot AFTER the Annual Meeting).
Last year we had a QUORUM and are hoping to repeat history this year. If you cannot attend the meeting, and IN ORDER TO GUARANTEE WE HAVE A QUORUM, please send in your signed and dated proxy to PAI as soon as possible. (Or you may give your proxy to a friend who will be attending the meeting. This would relate only to issues arising during the meeting on which you would want to vote if you were in attendance.)
DATE CHANGE: NEXT ANNEXATION MEETING
The first Annexation Fact-Finding meeting on Oct. 21 was informative and well attended. Due to a regatta conflict, the second community meeting has been postponed until Nov. 11 at the SCYC at 10:00 a.m.
ARB
A subcommittee has been set up to review new construction/staging issues as well as demolition regulations. As our community becomes more densely populated, it is becoming increasingly difficult to build a house without negatively impacting surrounding neighbors. The committee will look at different ways to lessen the impact and increase communication.
FYI—most all WH house plans have now been digitized for rebuilding purposes in case of a hurricane. If you would like a CD of your house plans for $25, contact Deanna Anderson at PAI at 842-1133.
PARKING ISSUE
Sailwing is reporting parking problems due to residents parking their cars in the designated guest spaces. Please note that guest spaces are for GUESTS and BOATERS, not residents.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
The WH Rules & Regulations, including Fines, Penalties and Appeals Process, have been revised for the first time since 2001. They will be distributed shortly and also posted on the website (www.windmillharbour.org).
MOA NEWS
At times the pedestrian foot bridge remains open after a boat passes through. Between the noisy alerter and the inconvenience of not being able to pass over the bridge while it is open, one can get frustrated. There is a solution: At each side of the bridge is a button. Press the button, and the bridge will close. (Don’t worry—there is a sensor that will prevent the bridge from closing onto a boat.)
FALL FESTIVAL
The Fall Festival was a great success—the weather was perfect, the food delicious, and Mark Woodruff’s plants from Carolyn’s Nursery were colorful and unique. Cyndee Wood won the 50/50 raffle, but there were other winners as well, thanks to the Sports Center, which donated lots of goodies that were also raffled off. Our thanks to the Yacht Club and everyone who made this a fun annual event!
HOLIDAY CHEER
Join us in celebrating a WH tradition by decorating your home and/or boat for the 9th Annual Harbour Stroll on Sunday, December 10, and maybe winning a prize. Any WH property owners who are not members of the SCYC who register for the contest may come to the Club for dinner that evening. Please call the Club to register and to make reservations (681-4844). Also, on Nov. 28 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. the Club will need volunteers to decorate the harbour, after which there will be a “Thank-You” party for all Santa’s helpers.
NEIGHBORLY REMINDERS
Don’t forget to email Dee Kubic at PAI (d.kubic@paihhi.com) your email address for our data base for notification purposes. This directory will be for confidential communications and community events and will NOT be shared with any outside entity.
Yard debris and cuttings are picked up by PAI on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. Just leave your cuttings curbside. This service is for our homeowners and NOT for landscaping companies, who must remove their own debris.
Don’t forget that Deanna Anderson of PAI is on site at the SCYC every Wednesday from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. to discuss any concerns that WH property owners may have.
***
Swan song: After almost ten years on the POA, it’s time for me to hang up my pen and turn over the newsletter to my successor on the Board. It’s been a glorious run—I’ve greatly enjoyed being WH’s “great communicator.” Windmill Harbour is better than ever, and I know our new Board will continue to work hard to maintain our stature on the Island. So, the final words of wisdom from Marcia Cornell are…predictably…please pick up after your pets, don’t speed, and respect your neighbors!!!
